Acrylic aquariums have become very popular because they are lightweight and come in many shapes and sizes. Of course like with anything in life, there are advantages and disadvantages. But I think the advantages of far outweigh the disadvantages.
1 This type of material is lighter and stronger than glass which makes it easier to move.
2 They are also more modern than your typical glass set up. Some come with colored backgrounds and you get more choices in styles.
3. Another advantage of this style can be shaped into just about anything your heart desires. Square, rectangle, round, hexagon, tube shaped or any other shape you can think of.
1 Unfortunately, there is some sort of distortion in the glass. This is caused by the way the material is bent during construction. The material is heated and bent into shape which produces a seamless look.
2 Another disadvantage is that they are a little more expensive than glass or plastic. I think they are worth the investment and you won't be disappointed.
3 Scratching is another problem. Cleaning your glass with a rough algae pad or moving around your gravel can damage the surface.
